Located in the south of Switzerland, close to the city of Gstaad, in the Diablerets mountains, Glacier 3000 is one of the country’s main attraction. It is the home of the Peak Walk by Tissot, the Alpine Coaster and the Ice Express Chairlift. All these overlook the outstanding Scex Rouge Peak. To find out more read the article bellow and enjoy our video at the end of it. Peak Walk by Tissot at Glacier3000 To go to the Peak Walk by Tissot , you have two options:   Walk to the peak. But it is a rather difficult and long walk because you will have to reach the height of 2966m. So, you really have to be in a good physical shape. By cable car. You can take the cable car from Col du Pillon (1546 m) and reach Scex Rouge (2950 m) terminus point. The cable car station is just at the main road so it is easy to reach it. Schaffhausen, the city of pure beauty!

Image
Schaffhausen is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. After a visit at Rhine Falls , where it was very very crowded, we decided to visit the city of Schaffhausen which was only 5 km from the waterfall. And we have discovered one of the prettiest cities we have ever seen in Switzerland . Old Renaissance house in Schaffhausen First of all it was very quiet, a silece that lets one enjoy the architecture and the soul of a place. Then we have been struck by the beauty of the Renaissance buildings that are in perfect shape. Schaffhausen is famous for the small, stylish balconies of the houses. Each house from the old city has a different balcony, all in perfect shape, decorated with flowers, plants or sculptures. As a matter of fact there are 35 places in Schaffhausen that are listed as Swiss heritage sites of national significance . Among them the impressive Munot fortress or the house " zum Ritter at Vordergasse 65 " that you can see in the picture above.

Rhine Falls – how you can enjoy Europe’s biggest waterfall

Image
Rhine Falls ( Rheinfall in German) is the biggest waterfall in Europe and, of course, from Switzerland. It is located in the northern part of the county, near the city of Schaffhausen and approximately 50 km away from Zurich. Rhine Falls / Rheinfall Rhine waterfall is absolutely mind blowing. While walking from the car to the viewing points you can hear the water falling and your mind starts to imagine this place. But, in my case, I was far from a correct image. First of all, the place is huge, it is 150 meters wide, the water falls for 23m with a huge speed. There are 600,000 liters of water that fall every second! The power and the speed of the water are amazing. The ticket point from Schloss Laufen castle We have arrived at Rheinfall by car from Zurich , but you can reach it also by bike or by train. There are two SBB stations there ( Neuhansen am Rheinfall on the north side and Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall on the south side). We have parked the car at the

The ship parade of the most beautiful Belle Epoque fleet in the world

Image
One of the most beautiful activity that takes place on Lake Leman is the annual Ship Parade of the Belle Epoque Fleet . This is the world's most important, most elegant and most look-alike fleet of side-wheel paddle boats. All the 8 ships were built by the Sulzer Brothers of Winterthur between 1904 and 1927. It is also the biggest Belle Epoque fleet of the world, in passenger capacity, and it has been classed as a Historic Monument of Swiss national importance on June 17th 2011. The ship parade of the Belle Epoque CGN fleet This year the parade took place in the Lavaux area, on the small harbor of Cully. 7 ships took part in this parade, a thing that hasn’t happened from 1998. This year the parade paid tribute to the 10 th anniversary of the Lavaux vineyards as a UNESCO world heritage site. The ships were:          LA SUISSE  - The most beautiful in the world!          SIMPLON - A jewel of neoclassical art!           MONTREUX - The veteran of the CGN fleet!

Walking on the world's longest pedestrian suspention bridge

Image
Just another Swiss masterpiece on inginery, the world's longest pedestrian suspention bridge has been inaugurated on the 29th of July 2017, near the village of Randa, canton of Valais, Switzerland. The bridge is 494 meters long, 65 cm wide and sits 85 meters above the valley. The breathtaking bridge offers stunning views of the Matterhorn, Weisshorn and Bernese Alps. The cost for building the world's longest pedestrin suspension bridge was around 750.000 CHF and it took 10 weeks to be build. It is called " Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge " after the name of its main sponsor. If you want to visit another Swiss touristic masterpiece read our article about Glacier 3000 and Peak Walk by Tissot ! This weekend I went to see it. There are two ways to reach it: from Randa (aprox.2-2.5 hours walk) or from Grachen or Zermatt (aprox.6-7 hours). I choosed the walk from Randa which is a lovely little village at the foot of the mountains. The Village of Randa Small

How can you travel back in time in Switzerland

Image
Switzerland is seen by many as the most inovative country in the world, but somehow manages to keep its tradition alive. One of the things they are so proud about is their railway system that crosses the mountins. We all have seen pictures or have used the Swiss trains, but ever wondered how they used to look in the begining of this century? Enjoy the video at the end of the article! Old Steam Train Well, you have this posibility due to a private line that uses the actual steam and electric trains that run in Switzerland in the begining of 1900's. This line is close to Lausanne (aprox 20 km) and starts from the village of Blonay and runs until Chamby and has 20km. If you came by car you can leave it in the parking near Blonay station (free on Sundays). Then go to the station and buy tickets for the electrical or for the steam train, My recommendation is to buy a one day ticket (20 CHF/adult) because thus you will be able to use any train to go up and then to come back.
